The United Architects of the Philippines was named one of the Alliance Partners of the Philippine Green Building Council during the 3-day green building expo entitled "Building Green 2007" held at the Bonifacio Global City. The affair was attended by several personalities led by Vice President and concurrent Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairman Noli De Castro which served as the keynote speaker.
The PhilGBC is a non-stock, non profit organization formed to promote safe, environmentally sound and responsible building construction practices.
The Alliance Partners from both private and public sectors includes the Ayala Property Management Corp., The Ayala Foundation ,Inc., The Ayala Land Inc., The Net Group, Green Architecture Movement of the United Architects of the Philippines (GAM-UAP), the Council of Deans and Heads of Architecte Schools in the Philippines (CODHSAP) and the Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines (SWAPP), League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), the City of Taguig and the City of Makati.
“We envision PhilGBC to become the Philippines ’ champion of best environment practices for the building industry”, says PhilGBC president Architect Christopher dela Cruz.
The 3-day green building expo entitled “ Building Green 2007” introduced the Green Building Rating System Project of the PHilGBC and promoted awareness of green building efforts in the country.
Lectures and workshop sessions on green building catering to national and local governments, professionals, students and advocacy groups were also be held at the Bonifacio Community Facility. A design competition for students which called for the application of green building practices was held in the afternoon on the second day of the expo.
The Market! Market! Activity Center served as the venue for the 3-day trade show of suppliers of green building products and alternative technologies. For a complete news and information, log on to www.philgbc.com.

| UAP GREEN ARCHITECTURE MOVEMENT HOLDS GREEN FORUM |
The Green Architecture Movement of the United Architects of the Philippines held its fourth Green Forum entitled Sustainable Design in Philippine Tourism at the National Museum, Manila, last June 16, 2007, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The focus of the said Green Forum is on green and sustainable principles in the design of small to medium-scale development in tourism.

| • The Green Architecture Movement |
The Green Architecture Committee was formed by the United Architects of the Philippines during the term of National President Prosperidad C. Luis, FUAP (FY 2000-2002). Because of its continuing advocacy activities, the committee was changed to Green Architecture Movement.

Under the leadership of the incumbent UAP National President, the movement continues to be one of the major projects of the UAP.

The secondary aim of the committee is to INFORM UAP members, the academe, other allied professions, and the general public about Green Architecture Principles.

UAP Wins Prestigious PRC’s Most Outstanding
Accredited Professional Organization
For the second time in five years, the United Architects of the Philippines has been named “Most Outstanding Accredited Professional Organization” for the year 2007 by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), the highest award that could be conferred upon an accredited professional organization by the PRC which is the central agency of the government charged with the licensing and regulation of professionals and the professions as well as the APOs. The last time this same honor was accorded to UAP was 5 years earlier, in 2002. Hence, UAP is the only APO to receive the second award in just a short span of time after the receiving the first award.
The Award was presented last June 22, 2007 at the Grand Ballroom, Sofitel Philippines Plaza in the observance of the PRC Anniversary Celebration and the Professional Regulation Week.
It may be recalled that in 1994, the PRC started conferment of the “Outstanding Accredited Professional Organization of the Year” Award in recognition of the achievements, services and commitment to the profession of the outstanding APO.
With the highest rating of 93%, UAP bested other professional organizations based on the following criteria set by the Commission for the 2007 Most Outstanding APO: (1) Leadership and initiative in participating in PRC activities and/or PRC sponsored programs/activities; (2) Quality of performance of service of nominees appointed to the Regulatory Boards in terms of validity and reliability of test questions prepared and asked in the licensure examinations, participation in other regulatory functions and in PRC programs, projects, and activities; (3) Quality and relevance of CPE programs administered and implemented by the organizations; (4) Significant achievements as a corporate body (a) in attaining the objectives of the organization, (b) in the enhancement of the welfare of its members in terms of placement and of assistance in the practice of the profession, and (c) in the enhancement of the stature/prestige of the profession; (5) Effective discharge of the profession’s social responsibility through meaningful participation in socio-related activities; (6) Relationship of the officers and members of the APO with officers and members of the other registered professional organizations in the same profession in terms of camaraderie, fellowship, cooperation in national programs and activities of the professions; (7) Leadership and initiative in undertaking programs, projects and activities related or unrelated to the practice of the profession, as well as improvement and/or contribution to the solution of problems affecting the profession, which redound to the benefit of its members and to the community/country in general; (8) Healthy relationship with the PRC and the Professional Regulatory Board concerned in terms of cooperation and coordination; (9) Smooth turn-over of duties and responsibilities of outgoing, to newly-elected and inducted officers of the organization, through peaceful and orderly elections, and initiative and leadership in the integration of all professionals into one organization; (10) Sponsorship of international conventions, conferences, workshops, symposia, and other similar gatherings of professionals; (11) Regular publication of news bulletin and technical journals and submission of annual reports (financial and operations) to PRC and SEC, and (12) Acquisition of own building and maintenance of the financial solvency of the association.
